22frames captioned and subtitled videos

Venice the Series, Season Two. Part Two of Episode One.

Original video: watch it at YouTube
Author comments: No copyright infringement intended.

The sole motivation for providing these captions is to allow this video to be seen and enjoyed by a wider audience -- namely non-native English speakers and the hearing impaired, who might otherwise have difficulties in understanding all the dialogue and being able to follow along with the story.

A significant number of English learners are practicing English listening through captioned videos.

The World Health Organization estimates 278 million people worldwide have some form of hearing impairment.

A Nielsen study suggests that there has been over a 300 percent increase in online video watching since 2003. Further, most watching is done during work hours. Workplace computers are often muted or have no speakers.

Several billions of videos are watched monthly worldwide, with many of them in different languages.

22frames.com aggregates captioned videos from all over the web.

Kids Health in the Classroom

Some days ago I readed an article about computer translation programs giving confusing and incomplete instructions to Spanish-speaking people in the United States. They receive prescription instructions from the pharmacy so poorly translated that the medications are potentially hazardous to their health. Read the full article from businessweek.com here.

Talking to the Pharmacists to ask questions about medicines is very important to our kids and we must to know answers for educational purposes only:

In this page you can listen on the speakers about common problems with childhood medications and tips from the Pharmacist.

The Girl Effect

The Girl Effect is the powerful social and economic change brought about when girls have the opportunity to participate in their society.

Adolescent girls are uniquely capable of raising the standard of living in the developing world.

Girls are the most likely agents of change, but they are often invisible to their societies and to our media.

When everyone -- girls, parents, teachers, executives, artists, hairdressers, forest rangers, rock stars, presidents, investors, advertisers, skateboarders, truckers, cowboys, organizations, chefs, teenagers -- knows about The Girl Effect, then real change can happen.

The Girl Effect site is just the beginning. The end is nothing less than ending poverty with CARE!

The Body Pictorial Vocabulary

Pictorial Vocabulary Guides from LanguageGuide.org

Learning the thousands of words needed to be comfortable in a language is a great challenge. The vocabulary guides are in essence virtual worlds. Users visit different parts of this world (i.e. insects, the family, the farm). They can then place their cursor over any of the images and hear their names pronounced and see them spelled out. In some pages, a notepad is displayed next to the title. Placing the cursor over this notepad will reveal a list of supplementary vocabulary .

Speaking and Chatting Online

Speaking24.com - free English conversations online.

Here you will find people who want to practise their English speaking skills online!

Check on the list who is currently online and just call him using Skype, MSN, ICQ or Yahoo!

You can also fill in your profile to apear on the list and wait for other person's call.

Have fun & Enjoy!

English speaking tips:

The main goal is fluency. Remember that you don't have to know many complex grammatical structures to achieve that goal! First of all try to speak as fluent as possible (even making some grammar mistakes). Then, after making your speaking fluent, you can focus on grammar aspects.

Of course the best way of practise are English conversations with other people. You can find some people who want to talk to you online on our website. We recommend to contact with other person using communicator which provides voice chat (like Skype). However, in case you don't have possibility to use such, it's better to practise by standard chatting than not practising at all.

Gypsy by Shakira

Broke my heart
Down the road
Spend the weekend
Sewing the pieces back on

Crayons and dolls pass me by
Walking gets too boring
When you learn how to fly

Not the homecoming kind
Take the top off
And who knows what you might find

Won't confess all my sins
You can bet I'll try it
But I can't always win

[Chorus]
'Cause I'm a gypsy
But are you coming with me?
I might steal your clothes
And wear them if they fit me
I never made agreements
Just like a gypsy
And I won't back down
'Cause life's already hurt me
And I won't cry
I'm too young to die
If you're gonna quit me
'Cause I'm a gypsy

('Cause I'm a gypsy)

WAR by the Father of the USA Constitution

James Madison was the fourth (1809–1817) President of the United States. He is traditionally regarded as the Father of the United States Constitution.

Letters and Other Writings of James Madison:

"Of all the enemies to public liberty WAR is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. WAR is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few. In WAR, too, the discretionary power of the Executive is extended; its influence in dealing out offices, honors, and emoluments is multiplied; and all the means of seducing the minds, are added to those of subduing the force, of the people. The same malignant aspect in republicanism may be traced in the inequality of fortunes, and the opportunities of fraud, growing out of a state of WAR, and in the degeneracy of manners and of morals engendered by both. No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual WARFARE."

"Perhaps it is a universal truth that the loss of Liberty at home is to be charged to the provisions against danger, real or imagined from abroad."

"If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy."
